Kilmarnock man wins Scottish singing contest

A KILMARNOCK man is on cloud nine after winning the Scottish final of a national singing competition.

Sean Jamieson, 23, will now represent Scotland at the final of Idol 2008 at Portsmouth’s Guild Hall on Sunday, November 29.

Sean, who works in the construction industry, has his eye on the top £25,000 prize which would be invested into his music career.

He told the Standard: “I didn’t think I had won, as even my brother said to me after my performance that I could sing much better than I did.

“I was gobsmacked when they told me I had won and that the whole judging panel were in agreement. I’ll have to be at my absolute best at the big final.”

Sean, who stays in Bellfield with fiancee Rosemary Kinghorn, took all his friends and family with him to the Sunday’s big show at Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall where he performed Paolo Nutini’s ‘New Shoes’.

Sean said: “My family, friends and my fiancee have been great. I told Rosemary I would win for her, and it felt great to actually do it. She was in floods of tears.

“My mum Lillain has been rushing about geeing up support for me as well, but in the end I didn’t need the audience vote, I got through on the judge’s vote.

“I have problems with my confidence sometimes and when the judges showed me their scores and told me how well I’d done, that gave me an enormous boost.”

Sean, who is well known in Kilmarnock and the Irvine Valley for his karaoke and cabaret act, says he doesn’t care about being famous, he just wants to sing.

He added: “It gives me such a buzz to sing in front of loads of people. I don’t really care about being famous or anything like that, I just want to be a singer.

“I’m really looking forward to representing Scotland at the grand final in Portsmouth.”

Sean’s dream of making a living as a singer is edging that bit closer and it may become reality if all goes well in a few weeks time.
